Hello, I’m Kirk Johnstone, Pipe Major of
the 306 Wing (Maple Leaf) Pipes & Drums. I am very pleased to
welcome you to our website. I hope this site, which you have either
stumbled upon or have been referred too by our handbill campaign,
will provide you with insight and in-depth information about our
band.
If you are looking to join a band, or simply want to learn
to play for personal reasons, we encourage you to explore this site
and learn about us.
This website provides our organization with the means to communicate
quickly with interested parties, so please don’t be shy to
contact us
or leave us some feedback.
Since it’s creation in 1992 (originally we were the 401[Air
Reserve] Squadron Pipes & Drums, before that unit’s disbandment),
Montreal has enjoyed the stirring sounds of our pipe band.
As a band, we can be seen on the streets of Montreal during Remembrance
Day Ceremonies, the St Patrick’s Day parade, Campbell Concerts,
1st and 4th of July Parades in Canada and the U.S., and many more
events throughout the year.
Thinking back on it, we have done quite a lot in our community since
1992.
We are proud to be one of Montreal’s Pipe Bands and look forward
to playing in your community soon!
| The standard instrumentation for the 306
Wing P&D is from 6 to 18 pipers, 3 to 7 side drummers, 1
to 4 tenor drummers and 1 bass drummer. Not only does the band
play marching tunes, our repertoire also includes slow-airs,
up-tempo jigs, reels and strathspeys. The music played by our
band is generally from the Scottish tradition, either in the
form of folk tunes and dance music in addition marching selections. |
